The out-of-contract defender has been linked with a summer transfer to Rangers.
Rangers head coach Russell Martin may face an early disappointment in the transfer market, with reports indicating that one of his top summer targets is closing in on a move to the EFL Championship.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Martin had placed out-of-contract Swansea City centre-back Harry Darling high on his wishlist. Martin is very familiar with the 25-year-old, having coached him at both MK Dons and Swansea City.

The recent departure of veteran defender Leon Balogun has left a gap in Rangers’ backline, while Robin Propper has been linked with a possible return to FC Twente, increasing the need for reinforcements in central defense.
Darling’s status as a free agent has drawn interest from several clubs, including Rangers and multiple EFL Championship sides. The Rangers Review also noted that Leicester City’s Conor Coady is among the other defensive options being considered.
Martin previously praised Darling for his potential and work ethic, calling him “young and hungry” and noting his athleticism, mentality, technical skills, and strong character. Darling, in turn, has credited Martin for playing a major role in his development, saying the coach’s trust gave him the confidence to play out from the back and embrace a high-intensity style.
However, it now seems Rangers may lose out on Darling’s signature. A fresh report suggests that Norwich City are in pole position to sign the defender, with BBC Radio Norfolk’s Chris Reeve claiming there’s growing optimism at Carrow Road. Reeve wrote: “Understand there’s growing confidence that Harry Darling is the next new signing through the door. The club have done really well to secure his signature, with competition from other Championship teams and Rangers.”
