Four-Star DB Combay Sets Commitment Date, Gamecocks in Strong Position

Highly regarded defensive back Combay has announced that he will make his college commitment on July 9, choosing between Missouri, Tennessee, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Over the weekend, Combay took an official visit to South Carolina, and it left a strong impression.

“The visit was great! The energy was real, and everything from the coaches to the atmosphere made it feel like a place I could see myself,” Combay said. “They are definitely in a strong spot.”

He emphasized the authenticity of the people within the program, noting that what stood out the most was the genuine connection he felt with both the coaching staff and players.

“You could tell it wasn’t just recruiting talk—it was real love and a real culture,” he added. “Coach Gray keeps it 100. He knows the game, is highly experienced, and takes the time to explain how I’d fit into their system. Our relationship has grown stronger with every visit and phone call.”

Combay’s recruitment has gained serious momentum following a standout season with the Harrison Hoyas. His film showcases elite instincts, impressive ball skills, and a knack for making tackles in space.

This offseason, he transferred to the Kell Longhorns, a respected 4A program in Georgia known for developing top-tier defensive backs. He joins a loaded secondary that includes Arizona State commit Jalen Williams and Tony Forney, giving Kell one of the state’s most dynamic backfields. With Combay’s explosive play style and versatility, the Longhorns will have the flexibility to employ a variety of coverages this fall.

When it comes to choosing a school, Combay prioritizes both development and a family atmosphere.

“Being developed is a big thing for me, and that’s more on a personal level,” he explained. “Also, does it feel like family? I want it to feel like I never left home, even if I’m far away. And of course, I want to go somewhere I can compete for a spot.”

With a strong official visit now in the books and South Carolina surging in his recruitment, the Gamecocks appear to be in a favorable position. With less than a month to go until Combay’s decision, all eyes will be on Columbia as the program hopes to land one of its top remaining defensive back targets in the 2025 class.
