On Tuesday, the Reds placed reliever Brent Suter on the bereavement list and called up left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa in his place.

Suter shared with reporter Charlie Goldsmith that his grandmother recently passed away.
“Every athlete experiences something like this,” Suter said. “Processing grief in a healthy way — whether that means talking to others or just taking time — and then switching gears to focus on baseball is incredibly tough. It’s not easy. But every player in this clubhouse is a true professional. You don’t reach or stay at this level without the mental and physical strength to handle these challenges.”
La Sorsa made a brief appearance for the Reds earlier this season, throwing a scoreless inning on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
In Triple-A Louisville, the lefty has pitched in 21 games this season, posting a 3.92 ERA over 20 2/3 innings. He’s held opponents to a .181 batting average.
