Transfer update: Jets Complete The Signing Of Versatile Wide Receivers In Blockbuster Deal

After the 2025 NFL Draft wrapped up, the New York Jets added 15 undrafted free agents to their roster.

Among them was Ja’Markis Weston, a former Florida Gator known for his versatility. Though he flew under the radar, ESPN’s Rich Cimini referred to him as a “hidden gem” in a May 25 article.

Cimini explained that the guaranteed money offered to undrafted players often reflects how sought-after they were post-draft, noting that few receive over $200,000 in guarantees. Weston was one of three Jets signings to surpass that mark, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Weston, who played both as a defensive end and special teams gunner, signed a deal including $200,000 guaranteed.

“The Jets typically keep two or three undrafted players on the roster each year, and that number could increase under the new coaching staff,” Cimini added.

Weston’s Versatility Stands Out

Weston’s value lies in his wide-ranging skill set. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic noted that while the guaranteed money he received raised some eyebrows, his background makes him a compelling prospect. During his six seasons at Florida, Weston shifted from wide receiver to safety, linebacker, and finally edge rusher. Though his defensive stats were modest in 2024—nine tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss in nine games—his adaptability makes him appealing.

NFL teams prioritize players who can fill multiple roles, especially when undrafted. Weston also stood out on special teams, logging 219 snaps last season. Rosenblatt highlighted that this workload likely influenced the coaching staff’s belief in his special teams potential.

Physical Attributes and Athleticism

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 235 pounds, Weston has impressive physical traits. Nick de la Torre of Florida Victorious called him a “workout warrior,” reporting that Weston can bench 525 pounds, squat 605 pounds, and power clean 315 pounds.
