South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers Turns Down $8M NIL Offer to Stay Loyal to Gamecocks
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is earning plenty of respect from Gamecock fans — not just for his talent, but for his loyalty.
According to his father, Norris Sellers, the rising star turned down a massive NIL offer worth $8 million over two years from another unnamed school. The intention was clear: lure the quarterback away from Columbia. But Sellers wasn’t interested.
“He had some wild numbers thrown at him,” Norris told The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. “I told him the decision was his — stay or go. But from my perspective, we came to college on a scholarship to play ball, get an education, and handle our business. The NIL opportunities came later. We’re not going to leave just because someone’s offering more money. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
LaNorris himself had an even simpler take.
“I’ve played football for free all my life,” he said. “I’ve built real relationships here. My family’s here, my brother’s here. There’s no reason to leave and start over somewhere else.”
Sellers is already drawing early NFL buzz as a potential first-round pick in next year’s draft. As a freshman, he threw for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 674 yards and seven scores — showing off the dual-threat skillset that makes him one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in college football.
In an age where big-money NIL deals are reshaping the landscape of college sports, Sellers’ decision to stay put is a rare reminder that not every choice is about the paycheck. Sometimes, it’s about loyalty, growth, and staying true to what got you there in the first place.
