Brady Singer, the starting pitcher, took a line drive to his throwing arm during Sunday’s game, which ended in a win for Cincinnati over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
However, on Monday, Reds manager Terry Francona shared encouraging news about Singer’s condition.
“He’s doing really well,” Francona told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. “He completed a full workout. There’s a minor bruise, but considering everything, we’re pretty lucky.”
This update suggests Singer likely won’t need to miss any games. That’s especially important for the Reds, who are already missing several starters—Hunter Greene, Carson Spiers, and Rhett Lowder—due to injuries.
So far this season, Singer holds a 6-4 record with a 4.59 ERA over 13 starts. In 68 2/3 innings, he’s recorded 56 strikeouts and issued 29 walks.
While his numbers aren’t eye-catching, Singer is valued for his consistency. The 28-year-old has made at least 27 starts in each of the past four seasons.
