Breaking News: Wrexham Comfirms Another Midfield Sensation Young Star From Birmingham’s Next Big Talent

Wrexham missed out on signing Marc Leonard last summer but Birmingham City may now allow the midfielder to leave on loan.

Wrexham is gearing up for another active summer transfer period as Phil Parkinson aims to make a significant impact in the Championship.

Last summer, Wrexham signed eight new players, including Arthur Okonkwo, Callum Burton, Lewis Brunt, Dan Scarr, Sebastian Revan, George Dobson, Ollie Rathbone, and Modou Faal.

Parkinson is likely to face a similarly busy transfer window this summer, with the club seeking reinforcements following their recent promotion.

Midfielders have been linked to the team, with Tom Cairney reportedly a target for Wrexham, and Lewis O’Brien also attracting attention from STōK Cae Ras.

Former Wrexham target Marc Leonard available from Birmingham City

One midfielder Wrexham showed interest in last summer was Marc Leonard.

Wrexham aimed to sign Leonard from Brighton and Hove Albion after he impressed during two loan spells at Northampton Town.

However, Birmingham City ultimately won the race and secured the Scottish midfielder on a permanent deal.

Parkinson later hinted that Birmingham signed players who were also targets for Wrexham during the summer, with Leonard likely being the most notable.

Last season, Leonard started 14 League One matches and made substitute appearances in another 21, often moving in and out of the Birmingham City lineup.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke now reports that Birmingham is open to loaning Leonard out before the new season begins.

Birmingham, like Wrexham, have ambitions to reach the Premier League soon and are expected to invest in new players again this summer.

Leonard might be loaned out, as Birmingham likely want him to get regular playing time elsewhere.

After missing out on Leonard, Wrexham turned their attention to Ollie Rathbone, a decision that has clearly paid off.

Rathbone quickly became a fan favourite at Wrexham, delivering an outstanding season filled with goals and energy.

Ultimately, things worked out well for Wrexham, with Rathbone proving to be a smart signing while Leonard now considers spending next season away from Birmingham.

Wrexham unlikely to return for Marc Leonard

Wrexham’s interest in Leonard a year ago might make some fans wonder if Parkinson could revisit that pursuit.

However, a move for Leonard this summer would come as a surprise, and instead, Jamie Lindsay’s name might be more relevant.

Lindsay was a major Wrexham target late in the January 2024 transfer window, but a last-minute deal fell through.

After leaving Rotherham United at the end of the season, Wrexham chose not to renew their interest in him.

Lindsay signed with Bristol Rovers but struggled to make a significant impact as the team faced relegation from League One.

With Wrexham’s project advancing rapidly, players who were targets six months to a year ago may no longer be priorities.

Within months, Wrexham shifted from pursuing Lindsay to signing Rathbone and George Dobson.

Similarly, they may bypass Leonard this time, instead focusing on players like Cairney and O’Brien, who have proven themselves at higher levels.

While Leonard impressed at Northampton and was a logical target last summer, he may not fit as well into Wrexham’s plans now.
