One of the top collegiate football programs has been demonstrated by the Ohio State football program. You will undoubtedly play in some fantastic games if your squad consistently ranks among the best. Over the past 25 years, that has undoubtedly been the case.
The Buckeyes have participated in many close, exciting games in addition to several major ones. Since Ohio State won the majority of their games last season, most of those weren’t. The Athletic claims that three games over the previous 25 years stand out.
The Ohio State Buckeyes were involved in three of the top 25 games in the last 25 years, according to a list compiled by The Athletic. All of the games are instant classics that Buckeye fans should not forget, even though none of them finished higher than sixth.
Three Ohio State football games are considered one of the best 25 games played since 2000
The first one on the list is The Game of the Century in 2006. It remains the only time in history that Ohio State and Michigan were the top two teams in the country when they matched up. Ohio State would go on to win that game 42-39 and play Florida for the national title. That game came in at 18 on the list.
Tenth on the list is a more recent game that is painful for Buckeye fans. It’s the Peach Bowl against Georgia in 2022 that saw the Buckeyes lose 42-41 after Noah Ruggles missed a 50-yard game-winning field goal just after the stroke of midnight.
Sixth on the list was Ohio State’s double overtime thriller over Miami in 2002 to capture Ohio State’s first national championship since 1968. That 14-0 team remains one of the best teams of all time, and they defeated perhaps the most talented college football team ever.
Over the next 25 years, Ohio State is bound to play in more great games. Let’s just hope that they come out on the right end of those games
